a journey towards the person God created me to be...

drawing whatever's before me
. . . which on Sunday morning in our discipleship class amounted to my bag, a large cup of hot tea, and my phone, opened to the Olive Tree Bible app as I followed the discussion. Mindlessly sketching while listening is something I do quite a lot.
I remember what I hear much better if I am mindlessly drawing something while listening. I did the same thing when in high school classes! Something about the brain / hand connection.
I need to do this more - sketching what's in front of me. I'm not sure I would be able to do it at church. Wouldn't people think I wasn't paying attention?
I am listening first, jotting down a note or scripture verse second, sketching third. Most people think I'm writing down notes in my journal. Those who know me know that I listen better if my hand is engaged.
Even in high school, I retained what the teacher said much better if I doodled on paper while listening. Once it backfired on me during biology class -- the teacher asked if I could draw him . . . then he paid me $5 for it!
I also sketch in church. I cannot sit and listen without sketching. It is nice to know someone else does this too. Thank you for sharing.
