random sketching
Just randomly drawing a bit here and there in my small purse-sized sketchbook . . .
. . . and playing with a limited palette in my Demi Palette from Expeditionary Art.

a bit of random drawing
Easing back into sketching with a bit of randomness . . .
A young girl at church gave me a turkey feather to draw. A rafter (yeah, I had to look that one up instead of calling them a flock!) of wild turkeys wonder around Somerville, TX and Kathleen swears they have it in for her, stalking her and chasing her whenever they get a chance!
I had already jotted down the quote and Bible verse a couple of weeks ago, from an ebook I’m reading.
Today, I put together this minimal sketch kit to keep in the car . . . so I might as well draw it too. The brush part of the waterbrush is stored inside the water chamber, reducing the water volume. I guess that’s why it came with the little yellow water bottle. Inside the little mint tin, a cut piece of silicone miniature ice cube tray holds the paint.

some late night sketching
I was tired last night, but not yet sleepy . . . So I picked up this Lamy Vista, filled with Noodler's red-black ink, and drew stuff on the nightstand next to me. Then washed out a bit of ink here and there with a waterbrush.
And so ends one more sketch journal . . . just in time to begin a special one tomorrow, handmade by my dearest friend, Kate (aka Cathy Johnson). Below are views of the inside facing pages of this small journal just ended. The rough textured brown paper was a bit hard to write on but I managed to jot down a few things I wished to remember.

randomness, in search of autumn
On the left side of this spread, I continued to play with my Sailor Fude de Mannen pen. It is amazingly easy to switch from the broad strokes of the bent nib to comfortably writing with a very fine line. The ink is the water-soluble cartridge that came with the pen. As soon as it is empty, I will refill it using a syringe with a water-resistant ink.
Autumn arrived here on a day still in the 90s. The common trees in our woods are a variety of oaks, pines, and cedar. Even some of the oaks are 'evergreen' so we don't see much autumn color. But I found a bit of color during a recent walk.

some randomness & the end of the book
Deawing people is still a bit intimidating, yet sometimes I just need to draw while focusing intently on what I am hearing in church. I somehow listen better when my pen is moving. So another random sletch of my own foot.
And this is what the last page / inside cover of my journals often looks like: a mish-mash of color or ink testing, notes, and random information. Usually a penciled notation of what paper is in the book if it's handmade.

a random doodle day
Sometimes I have a day of randomness, where my sketchbook becomes a collector of unrelated bits throughout the day. Such was the case last Sunday on this two-page spread . . .
