and we are done . . .

. . . at least with the hospital part. Bill's surgery yesterday went very well, he stayed overnight in the hospital, and was released today. Yesterday I thought I could finally draw Bill without him moving, as he was resting with his head in a neck brace. Wrong! He still managed to move. He'll need to wear the brass for 30 days to keep everything stabalized.

Some nerves in his neck that lead down his right arm will need to be "retrained" to do their job, but that's simply doing a few daily exercises. At the moment it's a bit comical to watch him try to eat or drink using his right hand: who knows where it might end up?

  1. Wishing Bill a speedy recovery...! When I see something like that I think: What many things can doctors do nowadays!
    God bless you both, Vicky.
Yes, and love the composition and the sketch and beautiful lettering :-)

  2. Thank you, Jana! It is amazing, both the knowledge that surgeons have on repairing the human body and the intricacies of that body showing how detailed God's creation truly is.

  4. We are very thankful for how well it went, though there's work to do now. We learned that for the past 3 years of experiencing this arm / nerve pain, Bill's nerves have settled into using a "long" circuitous route to send messages to his right arm. So we have to re-teach the nerves and arm to communicate in a direct line, through physical therapy exercises -- I get to be the therapist!

  5. That's a relief! Glad for both of you. Didn't take you long to get your first sketch of the medical hardware. That will give you something new to sketch. Hope the mending process goes well, too.

    1. Still dealing with the arm pain but we think that's the nerves struggling to figure out the correct path. And of course I had to draw the hardware! I seem to be inspired by unusual objects. ;^)
