still here . . . maybe home today?

Bill’s recovery was proceeding along so quickly that everyone expected him to be released yesterday. We waited extra-long on a surgeon to sign his release — they are understaffed due to Bill’s surgeon having been in a bicycle accident Saturday (he is now an in-house patient with broken ribs).

Before one of his colleagues could sign Bill out, he suddenly went into atrial fibrillation (Very thankful it didn’t happen after we left!). Apparently this happens about 15% of the time in the 5 days following bypass surgery. Oral medication failed to correct his heart sinus rhythm, so back to an IV drip. Within a short time, his heart beat was once again steady but they kept him another night for observation.

Where yesterday morning, he felt almost back to normal, now he feels like someone used his heart as a punching bag . . . or a soccer ball kicked hard down field. Otherwise, he is doing well and once again we are waiting for a doctor to sign him out — this time a cardiologist specialist The surgeon said he takes care of the plumbing, the cardiologist takes care of the electronics.

  1. Oh that must have been a fright! Thank God it was remedied and despite how his heart feels Bill is doing well. I look forward to hearing that he's been released and is resting comfortably at home.

    1. We’re looking forward to that ourselves, though I appreciate how cautious the medical staff have been!

    1. It’s nearly 6:00 and no one has seen the cardiologist yet so we’re still here. Bill rebelled against hospital food — I made a rn to the grocery store for a fresh salad with lots of veggies, plus fresh fruit for snacking.
The nurse has no idea why we are still here — just following orders. No more a-fib since yesterday at this time.
(We are not so good with this patience thing; does it show? 🤪)

    2. God hasn't failed you yet. Feel breaths. Ask for patience. Keep trusting.

    1. LOL! If we pray for patience, the Lord finds ways for us to develop it, right?
We are both totally trusting God with this, recognizing His hand at work. Several wee miracles attest to that! At this point, we are just laughing and getting to know the nursing staff very well.

  4. Of course. That's how it works 👌 Learning patience, making friends and counting miracles. Nice.

  5. "May He grant you according to your heart's desire, and fulfill all your purpose." Psalm 20:4 that in all your waiting, and uncertainties you would know that He that knows the number of the stars in the sky, and has named each one - not one is missing (Isaiah 40:26), this same God is keeping you and Bill, and bringing you through this by His mighty hand, in His perfect timing, in His miraculous way.
