sketchbook for my wee bag

While waiting last week to have a chemo pump removed, I sketched this flower arrangement in the waiting room. We were at the West Houston M.D.Anderson location this time; the downtown location does not have such things.

This little 2” square book is great for tiny sketches but is too chunky to easily fit in the bag I carry. So I switched to a 3 1/2 x 4 7/8” journal refill that came in my passport-size Travelers Notebook. The lighter paper handles ink and watercolor well for simple sketching and the flatness fits much easier in the cross-the-body bag.

As in all my sketchbooks, the first page(s) contains a palette — or in this case, a few of my favorite Demi Palette layouts.

  1. Vicky, I have been thinking of getting a demi palette from Art Toolkit. They are so cute and portable. The extra shipping and tax are what are holding me back at the moment. Wow! But eventually I will give in. I am going more compact with my supplies, attempting to make sketching more simple, comfortable and easy to take with me. I think we share a love of tiny things. Blessings and prayers. Fay

    1. Demi palettes are so much more functional than their tiny size appears! They can easily be clipped to a sketchbook page. Around Christmas time I think Art Toolkit lowers the cost of shipping — they notify those who subscribe to their newsletter. I usually wait until I have more items to add to an order such as Daniel Smith paints that I run short of.
