Heritage Sunday House

We recently stayed at the Heritage Sunday House, a charming bed & breakfast in Burton, Texas. While getting to know innkeeper Diane, she told me she had been wanting a drawing of the place for a new brochure. So I drew a couple of versions for her to play around with. Actually, I drew three but the first one had too much detail for its size and was drawn with too large of a nib. Which was strange, as I used my Platinum carbon desk pen --- which I had thought was the finest fountain pen nib I owned. Apparently the nib loosened up with much use.

I have given the upper two drawings to Diane, to see what she and the printer can come up with. Meanwhile, I need to get busy on some artwork to make prints off of --- Diane wants to sell them through her shop next door to the B & B.

  1. So glad I'm not in their shoes, having to choose one. What a wonderful opportunity to showcase and sell your lovely work.

    1. The larger one has more detail and is on whiter paper, the middle one has less detail and is smaller; I did both versions because I don't know which is better from the brochure printer's point of view. They'll use whichever works best for the purpose!

  2. Beautiful. A lovely opportunity for both of you. This is a little different from your usual journalling style . Was it a decision not have colour. How much guidance did you have from Diane ? They are all lovely.

    1. Alissa, I keep thinking of you in all this!
First Diane wanted a plain ink drawing for her brochure; I'm not sure what works best in size and detail so I gave her 2 to work with.
But now she wants me to have things to sell in her shop, to promote me as an artist. We've discussed me doing a series of note cards (similar to yours?) with bits from her bed & breakfast, the pets on her property, etc. But she really wants me to do anything I'd like, then make prints to sell.
I know nothing about the process, making note cards or prints to frame. Don't know where to go to have prints made? How many to make of each? Whether to switch to a palette based on cyan - yellow - magenta to print "purer" color or stick with my favorite earthy colors?
      Exciting opportunity but scary!

  3. Your drawings are lovely! I am very interested in what you learn through this process. I would like to have some of my work printed, and maybe note cards too but I have no idea where to start! This is a wonderful opportunity for you!!

    1. After giving these house sketches to Diane, I'm getting off to a very bad start on things to sell. Bathroom remodel and outer log repair on cabin, different grandkids' week-long visits, lots more "running around" than I used to do before Bill retired . . . and then I was sick with a 'bug' this week. Better now; I really need some focused time getting some sketches made! And find a printer / print service to have prints made. Like you said, I have no idea where to start!
