strawberries . . . in winter?

Even knowing we now live in a different gardening zone, Bill and I still marvel at some of the discoveries we are making. Like roses continuing to bloom off and on  all summer, autumn, and half-way into winter. Or the strawberry plants we set out last spring blooming all of February and even starting to set fruit! The first one is turning red in spite of temperatures some nights near freezing.

  1. That's definitely a plus! Bearing strawberry plants is not on my radar at this time. Are you on this planet? Wilma's thinking about what to plant, and we need to start tilling the soil to wake it up. I like how you captured the migration of ripeness around the berry!

  2. Apparently there are two active growing seasons for gardens here, with the hottest part of summer in-between. Yet the summers are no more hot and humid than we knew in Kansas.

  3. How lovely, Vicky! Looks like you are having summer! Today the snow was flying here :)

  4. Not quite summer -- the temperature dropped below freezing last night! But in Kansas our strawberry plants had no fruit until the end of May, first of June.
