a different than expected week

Earlier this week, I experienced some bad abdominal pain, bad enough to call for an ambulance in the wee dark hours. Everyone thought ‘appendicitis’. Rushed to hospital, took a cat scan and seeing a cancerous tumor shocked everyone.

Pain meds working for now along with antibiotics for the infection. Next, go thru chemo & radiation treatment, then possibly surgery depending on the first treatment’s success. Feeling much better today, (hurray for pain meds!), weaned off some medical equipment, and restricted diet somewhat eased up. Now for a long slow process of treatment and healing . . .

But I did manage to sketch these very wonky sketches — I forgot the Liliput fountain pen used in the first sketch (the sock thingy at the end of the bed) had water-soluble ink — oops! Good thing I also had an Mark’s Tous Les Jours ink pen with me.These are the last pages of the first side of a Hahnemuhle 2” Zig Zag sketchbook and a modified CMYK palette.

    1. I don’t always feel strong or determined but online friends like you have a way of encouraging me just when it’s needed — for that (and your prayers and hug), I thank you!

  5. So sorry to hear of your diagnosis. I hope your health care team comes up with a successful treatment. I don't like my friends having to deal with cancer.

    1. Hello, John! Great to hear from you.
I can’t say I like this cancer thing much either πŸ˜‰ but now I just want the battle to get underway. Waiting for second-opinion tests our daughter insisted on with M.D. Anderson. Should begin chemo next week. I’m very confident in my oncology team at Baylor, Scott, & White.

    1. Jana, I’ve thought about you and wondered how you are — I hope you are well. Cancer is a very challenging thing to deal with; if it weren’t for the Lord’s presence, I would be completely overwhelmed.
