eating out

Today we drove to Beasley so our daughter-in-law Carrie could do our taxes. After discovering we were missing some of our tax info, we ended up going out to eat Cajun instead, in Needville. I sketched our son Jason and granddaughter Jayna while waiting for our order, using a Lamy Vista pen and Diamine Earl Grey ink, washing out a bit of color here and there.

(My perspective is way off with Jason who is a big, tall man — I was drawing directly in ink and got his arm too short! Jayna is also tall but was right next to me. Both were fiddling with their phones.)

The Texas governor has decided that Covid-19 safety measures are no longer needed and will discontinue them next week — we strongly disagree, so this may be the last time for eating out for a while. Meanwhile, Bill and I were able to get the first of our vaccination shots, though we had to go all the way to Columbus, TX.

    1. Capturing those we love most is the hardest sketching of all! But even in my perspective blunders, I’m glad some of my feeling shows. 🤗

  2. Congrats on your shots! It's such a load off not to have to worry so much. Love your sketches, and especially the way you change your palette colors with the seasons. Your blog and reading about your barndominium conversion have been a life-line for me during the quarantine. - A fellow sketcher

    1. My arm isn’t so sure about those shots — my very affectionate husband has managed to accidentally squeeze that arm twice . . . Ouch!! But this too shall pass.

This year-plus of Covid-19 has been strange, to say the least. It’s our oldest granddaughter’s senior year, with so many of the traditional memory makers cancelled. We are very thankful she was still able to raise her cow (now more of a pet) and show it at the livestock show, though none of the family besides her dad were allowed to see it happening on-site.

I am also thankful for the online sketching community — so many worldwide to share this crazy time with!
